Now that the warmer weather is on its way, you’re likely to be spending more time outside enjoying your garden. If you want to get the most out of your garden then here are some tips that will help you to get it ready for summer. Whether you’re expecting guests or just want to spend time in the sunshine, these suggestions will help.

Tidy up your Garden

You’ll want your garden looking it’s best for the summer, so it’s important to remove any autumn leaves that are still laying around so that your garden appears neat and tidy. If you have a patio then it’s a good idea to jet wash it to remove the dirt that’s built up over the seasons.

Get the Barbecue Ready

For this it’s best to use a wire brush to clean burn marks from the metal racks. A good idea prior to use of your barbecue is to brush the grill with vegetable oil before cooking so that it makes it easier to clean afterwards.

Be sure to remove any rust if any has built up over the colder months. Although we always recommend covering your BBQ when not in use to keep it at it’s best for longer.

Add Style

Outdoor fairy lights are a great addition to any garden and can ensure that your garden looks good in the evenings. If you’ve already got outdoor lights then make sure the bulbs are still working, and if not replace any broken ones. For sitting out consider lighting citronella candles to keep the pests away.

Declutter your Garden Shed

If you own a garden shed then it’s likely that you’ve been piling it up over the colder months. Now that the warmer weather is here, it’s a good time to have a sort through and get rid of anything you don’t need to make use of the space.

Summer Planting

There are many different flowers to choose from that bloom in the summer. It’s best to decide on a colour theme for your garden and buy plants accordingly as this will give your garden an organised look.

Take care of your Lawn

Be sure to mow your lawn and use weed and feed treatments to keep it looking its best. Water it regularly to encourage healthy growth so that it keeps its vibrant look. Over the months, your lawn may have been damaged so it’s important to seed it so that it looks lovely again.

Consider investing in a Gazebo

As we’re living in the UK, rain is always expected. Having a Gazebo on hand will ensure that you don’t have to worry about unexpected rainfall.

Clean up Garden Furniture

In the warmer weather you’ll want to spend more time outside enjoying your garden, so be sure to clean up any furniture that may have collected dust in the colder months.

If you’ve got wooden furniture then it may need a varnish to restore it, especially if it’s been outside over the year.

Refresh the look of your Fence

There’s a good chance that your fence could do with a repaint to brighten it up. You can also use treatments on your fence to protect it from the heat for those hot summer days.

Carry out any repairs that need doing to make sure your garden is looking its best.
